On Beauty

The concept of beauty is very subjective. It has so many layers, that if one asks what it is, one would be asked to clarify what kind of beauty is being referred to.

Looking at history, culture, psychology, philosophy, sociology, and aesthetics are some of the contexts that have shaped our idea of what beauty is. Beauty has been depicted in a number of ways that one can actually choose a definition that best resonates with him/her.

As I deeply reflect on what it means to be beautiful, and how beauty manifests its truth to me, I realized, looking into one’s self is where it should begin. Self-awareness is key. By identifying, and then assessing our strengths and weaknesses in different areas of our being, we get to know what we can do and be. And when we live our utmost potential, in all aspects possible, that’s when we are most beautiful. And this kind of beauty is not just a state, but transforms into a way of living.

The rewarding part of this kind of introspection is the understanding that no one is perfect and that is absolutely okay. Despite our imperfections, still, we have always been complete to serve a unique purpose, which we’ll only come to know by being honest, allowing us to work on goals using what we have been blessed with.

At the end of the day, the differences in each of us mean aspiring to different callings. What we want to achieve is a profound insight that will make us more confident and courageous to deliver that purpose. And when we strive for that, our incomparable beauty will show.

When we are driven by intention, we value the blessings each of us have. And however different  the ways we reach our goals, when done with a genuine heart, the truth of our being will radiate, and beauty, in all its intricacy, will shine, and can not be denied.

So the next time you think of beauty, as broad as it may be, you can always simplify by saying, “it is me”.
