Hosting has always been a huge part of my public performances. Before becoming an actress, and a sportscaster, hosting started it off for me. From way back in grade school, to high school, and even in college, I would be entrusted with big school events to make sure they are ran smoothly and lively.
I remember being the commentator for Eucharistic celebrations, and emcee of school programs and variety shows for many years in St. Scholastica. And when I stepped into college in Ateneo de Manila, I was among the hosts to facilitate the famous Freshmen Orientation Seminar (OrSem) and the Seniors’ farewell celebration, the Blue Roast. It even extended to hosting concerts and org events that all led me to polishing the techniques required to be better at work.
Undoubtedly, these experiences added to my comfort of being on stage, and conducting myself as spontaneously and naturally as possible, without neglecting technicalities that make it a professional task. From making sure to hit proper markings and lighting, to wearing of flattering outfits, to the more crucial details of proper bantering, smart stalling and on point following of program, and to making sure to adhere to pre-show and at-the-moment production instructions–hosting has become a skill that I truly enjoy doing and perfecting.
I am happy to say that my early orientation led me to doing it professionally on television. First, as a segment host when I won the VJ search of the youth oriented show Wazzup Wazzup (of ABSCBN’s Studio 23), and when I ended up becoming a court side reporter for the Philippine Basketball Association, and a show host for TV5.
Simultaneous to my TV career is hosting live events for different companies, and clients, ranging from formal award ceremonies, to fun parties, and even corporate functions and campaigns for various brands of different industries for the last decade. And now adding on to my offerings is online hosting for digital events due to the new normal we are all in.
Truly I am blessed to have evolved in this work over time, and my respect and passion for hosting has led me to keeping it as a job and an enjoyable part of my life.
